2010 Wrap-up: Impressive Subscriber Growth and Network Expansion, Plans to Double Subscriber Base in 2011

February 17th, 2011

2010 was a record setting year for us, as we built the nation’s first 4G wireless network at unprecedented speed, massively grew our subscriber base, and firmly established our position as a leader in mobile broadband.  We grew our network coverage by 250% and increased our subscriber base by 540%.  These wins make us one of the fastest growing wireless companies in the country.

Looking ahead, customer demand for mobile broadband is just beginning to accelerate. Our position as a spectrum rich, technology agnostic operator places us in an ideal spot to serve the high tonnage customers everywhere are demanding. While wholesale will likely contribute the majority of our subscriber growth in 2011, we also expect double-digit retail subscriber growth this year.

Diamonds, Love and Ellen – Clearly Something You Need to Watch

February 14th, 2011

Love is in the air at Clearwire! While some employees received candy or flowers from that special someone, one employee had a Valentine’s Day experience that she will never forget.

Anna ‘Nina’ Linao, a National Indirect Account Executive from our San Francisco market, took a trip to Los Angeles with her boyfriend last week to visit family and friends. He had also made plans for them to view a taping of The Ellen Degeneres Show.  What she didn’t know was that her boyfriend had also made plans with Ellen… plans that included asking Nina for her hand in marriage on Ellen’s show!

The show aired today, and we are happy to share the romantic surprise with you during this most romantic time of year.

Congratulations Nina and Wendell! We wish you both all the best.

It’s Tax Season: Clearwire Partners with the Center for Economic Progress

February 8th, 2011

Today Clearwire is announcing the donation of CLEAR 4G internet service and mobile devices to the Center for Economic Progress of Illinois. This donation will provide internet access for the mobile tax preparation centers, which go out and assist Chicago’s low-income community.

In the past, Clearwire employees have volunteered at elementary schools, or donated mobile modems to various districts, among a number of other serving experiences.  As Chicago was one of Clear’s first 4G markets, we are especially eager to help out our hard-working community during this wave of tough economic times.  David Marzahl, president at the Center for Economic Progress, told us that thanks to this donation, “CEP’s dedicated volunteer corps will be able to help return more than $50 million in refunds to 30,000 families and their communities during tax season.”

The program started January 18 and will conclude on April 15, 2011. Chicago area centers are located in Maywood, Rogers Park, Albany Park, Pullman, Humboldt Park and Lawndale.
