What do the lights on my CLEAR home modem mean?

August 21st, 2012

What light through yonder modem blinks?

There’s one word to describe how you’ll feel when you get your CLEAR Hub home for the first time : Elated.  We know exactly how your feel! The excitement of having wireless internet in your hands is exhilarating. We have already shown you what you’ll find in the box. Now it’s time to show you what you will see when you plug in that CLEAR Modem with Wi-Fi or that CLEAR Hub Express.

When you first plug in the Hub, the power light should come on first.

Power Light

After a few seconds, you should notice the five lights come on solid.

Five Lights

The five lights will go out, but do not fret! They’ll be back momentarily. (This is just like when you wake up in the morning, stretch, and count all your fingers and toes before you get going.)

When the five lights come back, you’ll probably notice that the middle light blinks or is slightly faint. This is the modem looking for CLEAR 4G signal in your area. (The modem needs to ‘Buddy up’ with the tower, and it’s always a good idea to put the modem as close to your nearest tower as possible.)

Blinking Middle

Then the lights do what I like to call the Disco Party. What this means: Single light should light up from the bottom to the top twice. Then all five lights should flash in a celebratory fashion.

Lights Blink Disco Lights Five Up

Finally the power light, and wifi light should be on solid. The remaining dot lights indicate the modems’ strength of connection to the tower.

4 lights up

Well four out of five isn’t bad! That’ll do it! If you have any questions on the lights on your modem, or the lights are not behaving properly find us on Facebook, or Tweet us! We’d love to help.

How to Change Network Name and Password on the CLEAR Spot Voyager

August 17th, 2012

The CLEAR Spot Voyager is perfect for travel and use outdoors. You can share this signal amongst 8 devices at a time.

Now the CLEAR Spot Voyager comes ready to rock your wifi world. But let’s say you want to customize your network with your own name, like “JamesSuperWIFIofFun” you can! You can also change the network password to whatever you like- just follow these simple steps:

1. Connect to the default network that is printed on the back of the CLEAR Spot Voyager (Usually this is ClearSPOT_XXXXX)

2. Open your web browser and type in 192.168.1.1 in the URL field

3. You’ll see this login on the left. Type in the default password “admin” and login.

4. Under Basic Wi-Fi Settings you will see the Network Name, and the Wi-Fi Password can be changed.  Click Apply. (When choosing a password, I recommend keeping it secure with at least a few letters and numbers, and keeping it above 6 characters in length.)

5. Enjoy your portable CLEAR 4G internet!
